Both the Central High School baseball and softball teams earned top seeds for the upcoming District 6 playoffs, which begin Thursday.
The Central baseball team, the defending District 6 Class 3A champ, will begin play in the quarterfinals on Thursday at home against Westmont Hilltop. Defending 3A state champion Tyrone is the sixth seed and travels to Forest Hills.
Other area teams earning top seeds in baseball were Altoona in 6A (will meet State College in the finals next week) and Portage in 2A (hosts Northern Cambria on Thursday).
Also on Thursday, the Bishop Guilfoyle baseball team, seeded fifth in 2A, travels to River Valley, and Williamsburg, the sixth seed in 1A, visits Harmony
On Monday, Hollidaysburg (seeded fourth in 5A) travels to Central Mountain, and Penn Cambria (third in 4A) is at Juniata.
The Central softball team earned the top seed in 3A and hosts Richland on Monday in the quarterfinals. Other 3A softball games Monday include Cambria Heights (No. 3) hosting Forest Hills, and Central Cambria (No. 5) at Bald Eagle Area.
Glendale also secured a top seed in Class 1A and hosts Bishop McCort. Other 1A games on Monday include Portage (No. 3) hosting Blacklick Valley, and Williamsburg (No. 5) at Ferndale.
Claysburg-Kimmel, the No. 2 seed in 2A, will host West Branch on Monday.
Kicking off the softball playoffs Thursday in semifinal action are Altoona (third seed in 6A) at Mifflin County, and Hollidaysburg (third seed in 5A) at Bellefonte.
