Central boys keep record perfect with 3-1 victory
DERRY — The Central boys high school volleyball team remained unbeaten through six matches with a 3-1 victory over Derry Tuesday night.
The Scarlet Dragons claimed the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 26-24 before dropping the third by a 25-17 score.
Central, which improved to 6-0, took the match with a 25-17 showing in the fourth set.
Zeb Wyant led the Dragons with 17 service points, including nine aces, and 12 kills.
Zach Wyant contributed 17 assists, 10 kills and seven service points, while Luke Weber dished out 16 assists and Zach Gahagan tallied five kills for Central.
CENTRAL: Ze Wyant 17, Za Wyant 7, Lingenfelter 7, Weber 6, Gahagan 5, Wright 4.
Team records: Central (6-0).
JV: Derry won 25-8, 25-12.
Altoona falls 3-2
Altoona dropped the fifth and final set, 15-6, in a home loss to Carlisle.
The Mountain Lions took the first and third sets (25-23 and 26-24), while the Thundering Herd, in addition to the last one, claimed the second and fourth sets (25-16 and 25-16).
Garrett Baumgartner fronted Altoona with 13 kills, 13 digs and nine service points, while Caleb Fries recorded 13 kills and 11 digs.
Sam Kessinger handed out 38 assists and had six digs for the Lions, while Noah Fries finished with 20 digs.
