SHIPPENSBURG -- The Altoona Area High School boys track and field team won the 95-team Shippensburg Invitational with a score of 82 points behind a big performance from senior Jake Adams on Saturday afternoon.
Adams won the long and triple jumps and was part of the third-place 400-meter relay team with Ty Friedenberger, Tyson Reid and Branson Adams.
Cumberland Valley was second with 65 points and State College was third with 44 points.
Ethan Stroup had a big day in the throws by winning the javelin, finishing second in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
Friedenberger finished second in the long jump and third in the triple jump. Nathan Lutz was third in the pole vault, and Branson Adams was third in the high jump.
The 3200-meter relay team of Aidan Kelley, George Boutiller, Braeden Ferguson and Gabe Ebsersole finished second.
The girls team finished in sixth place led by senior Brooke Long, who finished second in the long jump, fourth in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump.
She was also part of the second-place 400-meter relay team with Hailey Kravetz, Lauren Kiser and Ashtyn Hileman. Kravetz, Hileman and Kiser teamed up with Reese Wilber to finish third in the 1600-meter relay.
Kravetz finished fourth in the 300 hurdles to round out the scoring.
Lions top DuBois
DuBOIS -- Altoona used a 12-run second inning to hand DuBois a 15-5 defeat on Saturday afternoon in baseball action.
Erik Rhodes led the way with two hits and three RBIs, while Ethan Hileman added two hits and an RBI. Matt Moyer, Lucas Muffie and Connor Weyandt all knocked in two runs for Altoona.
Winning pitcher Aidan Steinbugl pitched into the fifth inning and struck out five.

B-A tops Tyrone
BELLWOOD -- Zach Pier hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Bellwood-Antis to a 6-4 victory over rival Tyrone on Saturday in high school baseball.
Alex Kovac hit a three-run home run earlier in the game for the Blue Devils.
Nic Lehner went 3-for-3 for the Golden Eagles, and Cortlynd Rhoades had a pair of hits.

Portage wins title
PORTAGE -- Payton Noll hit three home runs and had five total hits and nine RBIs to lead Portage to a championship at the Mayhem on the Mainline Softball Tournament on Saturday.
Maryn Swank was the winning pitcher in a 16-1 victory over Bishop McCort, doubled and drove in three runs. She added two hits and two RBIs against Johnstown in an 11-1 win.
Lyndsey Castel, who along with Noll, Swank and Kenna Redfern were named to the all-tournament team, homered for the Lady Mustangs against McCort.
United topped Bishop McCort, 5-1, in the consolation game. McCort's Halle Bair (base-running), Portage's Karli Karalfa (fielding) and United's Abby McConville (home run derby) won skills contests.

PENN HILLS -- Aquinus Academy edged Altoona, 26-24, in the finals of Silver championship in the Penn Hills JV Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
Altoona had beaten Penn Hills, 25-17, in the semifinals.
The Mountain Lions went 0-3 in afternoon pool play with losses to Norwin, Gateway at Latrobe after beating Obama Academy twice, splitting with Norwin and losing to Our Lady of Sacred Heart twice in the morning pool.
Noah Fries had 12 kills, 19 digs, nine aces and four blocks for Altoona, and Sam Kessinger had 26 assists.
