Tiger hockey gets 15th win of year

The Hollidaysburg ice hockey team will head into the playoffs next week on a winning note, thanks to a 6-3 win over Richland Thursday night in high school action at Galactic Ice.

The Golden Tigers (15-5) led 3-0 after one period, but watched Richland cut that lead to one goal early in the third period, 4-3. However, goals by Zach Dunlap and Matt Ritchey in the final frame set the final score.

Ty Burket, Colin Horn, Isaac Miller and Gabe Livella each scored to help Hollidaysburg build its 4-3 lead. Goalie Tyler Duey faced 28 shots and stopped 25 of them.

Mid-Penn stars out

HARRISBURG -- The Mid-Penn Conerence released their high school basketball all-stars this week and members of the Altoona boys and girls teams were recognized.

On the girls side, Altoona's Brooklyn Barron made the second team while teammate Taylor Lane was listed as Honorable Mention.

On the boys side, Altoona's Ashton Neely was named Honorable Mention.

SFU star honored

LORETTO -- Saint Francis University's Jada Dapaa was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and All-NEC first-team all-star on Monday.

Dapaa becomes the fourth different player in program history to earn NEC Defensive Player of the Year. Ace Harrison was a two-time winner in 2017-18 and 2016-17, Tonjee Ward was a two-time winner in 2003-04 and 2002-03 and Christin Black was a 2004-05 honoree. Dapaa is the first Saint Francis player to receive the Most Improved Player honor.

The North Bethesda, Md. native led the NEC with 12.6 rebounds per game this season, which ranked third in the NCAA Division I. Her 364 total rebounds this season ranks third in single-season program history and she was three rebounds shy of breaking Jess Zinobile's record of 366 set in 1999-00 going into Monday nigh's tourney game. Her 741-career rebounds rank ninth in program history.

The senior's 253 defensive rebounds were more than any other player in the NEC had total -- Bryant's Brooke Bjelko was second in total rebounds with 210.
