JOHNSTOWN -- Three Northern Bedford wrestlers placed third at their respective weights in the District 5 Tournament on Saturday at UPJ to qualify for the Southwest Regional Tournament.
Northern Bedford's Eion Snider (160), Aaron Bowers (172) and Derek Beach (285) all placed third to qualify. The top three at every weight advanced to the regional.
Reyan Imler (132) and Brian Amick (215) came up one win short with fourth-place finishes. Imler suffer two overtime losses, including an 8-4 OT loss to Somerset's Logan Baker.
"The team wrestled very well," Northern Bedford coach Brian Dutchcot said. "They finished the season strong and wrestled tough Saturday. It is nice to get three wrestlers to regionals in Eion Snider, Aaron Bowers and Derek Beach."
The regional tournament is scheduled for March 4-5 at Peters Township High School.
Chestnut Ridge had another dominant tournament performance. The Lions had eight champions, two runners-up, qualified 12 to regionals and won their 11thstraight team title by 125 points over Somerset, 242-117.
Easton Mull (106), Brock Holderbaum (113), Ross Dull (120), Calan Bollman (132), Mason Weyant (138), Trevor Weyandt (145), Jack Moyer (152) and Daniel Moore (172) won titles. Kobi Burkett (126) and Luke Moore (160) finished second.
"We took care of doing what we wanted to - claim another district title and qualify 12 for regionals," said Ridge coach Josh Deputy, who was named District 5 Coach of the Year. "I'm proud of their effort, and look forward to the next two weeks to prepare for regionals."
Tussey Mountain had two champs in Trevor Husick (126) and Matt Watkins (285).
