Five area wrestlers, including two each from Tyrone and Glendale, were named No. 1 seeds for the District 6 Class 2A Tournament at the zoom seeding meeting on Tuesday night.
Tyrone's Korry Walls (106) and Ashton Sipes (132) and Glendale's Zeke Dubler (160) and Suds Dubler (172) were announced as top seeds, as was Penn Cambria's Trent Hoover (126).
Central Cambria's Ethan Kubat (189) and Karter Quick (285) were tabbed second seeds, as was Glendale's Britton Spangle (215).
Tyrone's Andrew Weaver (160) and Braden Ewing (285), Central's Tyler Biesinger (113), Glendale's George Campbell (132) and Penn Cambria's Austin Wagner (189) were all named third seeds.
Penn Cambria's Nathan Little (152) and Austin McCloskey (160) and Central's Jaxon Matthews (132) are fourth seeds. Tyrone's Jason Barr (189) and Central's Wyatt Holsinger (285) are seeded fifth.
The top six wrestlers at each weight class qualify for the Southwest Regional Tournament, which is slated this year for March 4-5 at Peters Township High School.
The 23-team District 6 Class 2A Tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Altoona Fieldhouse. The second session of the day begins at 5 p.m. A quarterfinal round is scheduled for the evening session.
Wrestling resumes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with a consolation round. The semifinals will follow. The consolation semifinals and seventh-place bouts are included in that session. The championship finals, third-place and fifth-place bouts follow the 4:45 p.m. Hall of Fame induction.
Bald Eagle Area's Lucas Fye (113), Coen Bainey (120), Noah Foltz (189) Forest Hills' Easton Toth (138), Jackson Arrington (152), Kirk Bearjar (215), Penns Valley's Ty Watson (145) and Huntingdon's Gunner Singleton (285) are the other top seeds.
Tigers triumph
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Hollidaysburg wrestling team finished the regular season on Tuesday night with a 46-25 win over Indiana in high school action.
The Golden Tigers got falls from Noah Horne at 120 and Aaron Sleeth at 172, plus a major decision from Quinton Ritchey at 152.
Hollidaysburg also received five forfeit victories.
