Johnstown eliminated
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Johnstown's entry in the DICK's Sporting Goods PONY League World Series was eliminated in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Martella's Pharmacy dropped two games to Brownsville, Texas, 2-1 and 6-2, to end play with a 2-2 record. Brownsville will face Youngstown, Ohio, in today's championship game at 6 p.m.
The final will be shown live on AT&T SportsNet.
In the second game Tuesday, Ruben Lopez fired a complete-game two-hitter for Brownsville. Altoona native Aaron Smearman smacked a two-run double in the third inning for Martella's only runs.
In the first game, Javier Garcia struck out seven over six innings to earn the win for Brownsville.
Johnstown scored its run in the top of the sixth inning when Anthony Grippo, who reached on an error to lead off the inning, sprinted in to score on a groundout to first base.
Aaron Bowers went all six innings on the mound for Johnstown, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks, with four strikeouts.

Penn State Nittany Lion wrestler Beau Bartlett recently won a bronze medal at 65 kg in the United World Wrestling Junior World Championships in Ufa, Russia. Bartlett went 3-1 at the two-day event. The Penn State sophomore opened by taking down Hungary's Marcell Kovacs, 12-1, and then posted an 11-0 win over Davit Margaryan of Armenia. He moved into the semis where he lost to Ziraddin Bayramov of Azerbaijan, 6-2.
Bartlett took on Tajikistan's Mustafo Akhmedov for a bronze medal on day two of the event. He fell behind 4-0 early on a takedown and leg lace before coming back for the 7-4 win.
