UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State men's basketball hcoach Micah Shrewsberry has announced the addition of Greg Lee to the Nittany Lion program on Tuesday.
Lee, a 6-foot-9 forward, averaged 13.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game at Western Michigan to earn All-Mid-American Conference honorable mention recognition in 2020-21. Lee joins Penn State with one year of eligibility remaining.
"He will provide a veteran presence and add more experience to our front line," Shrewsberry said. "His versatility and ability to score the ball in a variety of ways will be really helpful in our system. More importantly, he is a gym rat who will constantly push himself and his teammates to become better."
Lee's 13.0 points per game ranked second on the Western Michigan team, while his 7.2 rebounds per contest led the squad. He ranked seventh in the MAC in rebounds per game and fifth in the conference in defensive rebounds per game (5.8). Lee started all 21 games while shooting 50.4 percent from the field and adding 2.4 assists per game.
The Rockford, Ill. native registered 14 double-digit scoring games, including a pair of 20-point performances, in addition to a team-best four double-doubles in 2020-21 to earn All-MAC honorable mention laurels.
Panthers get defensive
PITTSBURGH -- Pitt coach Jeff Capel continued to retool the men's basketball roster with the signing of 2021 American East Defensive Player of the Year Mouhamadou Gueye on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 9.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.1 blocks per game en route to also earning third team all-conference and all-defensive team accolades last season at Stony Brook.
"Mo is a terrific athlete with a defensive mindset and a strong all-around skill set," Capel. said "We love his competitiveness and ability to play above the rim on both ends of the floor. He gives us another versatile player."
Gueye, a native of Staten Island, N.Y., concluded his two seasons at Stony Brook with 436 points (8.1 ppg.), 360 rebounds (6.7 rpg.), 92 assists (1.7 apg.) and 129 blocks (2.4 bpg.) in 54 career contests. He shot 43.7 percent (157-of-359) from the field and 71.7 percent (99-of-138) from the foul line. As a senior, Gueye scored in double figures in 10 contests and grabbed 10 or more rebounds six times. His 3.1 blocks per game last season set a school single-season record, while his 2.38 career blocks average is also a Stony Brook record.
