Central, Tyrone set for PNG Field

The Central and Tyrone high school baseball teams will meet Monday in a rematch of the District 6 championship game at Peoples Natural Gas Field with a chance to play in the PIAA Class 3A state championship game on the line at 6 p.m.
The District 6 champion Scarlet Dragons have gone 2-1 against the Golden Eagles so far this season. Central won 11-1 in the district final and 14-4 on its home field in a regular season game, but Tyrone won 12-7 during the Altoona Curve Classic and went on to capture the championship.

The rematch between Mountain League rivals will be the second game of a doubleheader at PNG Field. District 6 Class 5A champion Central Mountain will take on WPIAL runner-up Bethel Park in the first game at 3 p.m. in another semifinal game.
Juniata Valley, the District 6 Class 1A champion, will also get to play in its home district when the Green Hornets take on District 3 runner-up Halifax in a semifinal game at Bald Eagle Area High School at 4:30 p.m. On the other side of the 1A bracket, District 5 champion Southern Fulton will take on WPIAL third-place finisher Eden Christian at First Commonwealth Field in Homer City at 5 p.m.
The Class 1A, 3A and 5A state baseball championships will all be held at State College’s Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Thursday with the games starting at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
There will be one PIAA softball semifinal game held in the area on Monday as District 9 champion Punxsutawney takes on WPIAL champion Mount Pleasant at Saint Francis University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
