The Central Cambria boys 3200-meter relay team is the top-seeded squad in the state going into Friday's PIAA Class 2A championship meet at Shippensburg University.
The Red Devils seed time of 8:01.45 is nearly eight seconds faster than second-seeded Hughesville. Central Cambria broke the District 6 record in the event, a mark that had been held by the 1999 Bellwood-Antis boys.
Other seeded area Class 2A boys athletes include Bellwood-Antis' Hunter Shawley, who is sixth in the 300-meter hurdles, Luke Lamb of Cambria Heights, who is No. 7 in the high jump, Adam Lechleitner (also part of that Central Cambria relay team) at No. 7 in the pole vault and Northern Bedford's Mason Detterline (fifth) and Portage's Demetri Miller (sixth) in the triple jump.
On the girls side in 2A, Portage's Lauren Shaffer is seeded highly in three different events.
Shaffer is seeded third in the 1600-meter run and the 800-meter run and sixth in the 400-meter run.
The Central Cambria girls 3200-meter relay team is seeded fourth, and Lady Red Devil Annaliese Neibauer is seeded seventh in the 3200-meter run.
The Class 3A competition will be held on Saturday.
Altoona's Brooke Long will be entering the meet seeded in three different events.
She's third in the long jump, sixth in the triple jump and Altoona's 400-meter relay, which she helped set a school record with at the District 6 meet, is seeded seventh.
Her male teammates Austin Kravetz (fourth in the 110-meter hurdles) and Ethan Stroup (tied for eighth in the javelin) also will enter the meet seeded in the top eight.
