McMillen falls at PWC event

CANONSBURG — Glendale’s Brock McMillen’s scrambling ability was in full effect against Oklahoma three-time state champion Carter Young in the 47th annual Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic on Friday night.

McMillen, who just capped off his career by winning his third state title, fought off multiple takedown attempts by the Northwestern recruit, but Young was able to earn a 3-1 win at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe, near Canonsburg. The event is usually held on Pitt’s campus.

The sixth-ranked Young was able to convert out of a scramble at the edge of the mat with 30 seconds left in the second period to go ahead 3-1. He escaped 57 seconds into the third, but McMillen, who will continue his wrestling career at Pitt, never got a takedown.

Team Pennsylvania beat Team USA, 27-23, for its first win in the event since 2012.
