Curve bats go silent

RICHMOND, Va. — John Michael Bertrand threw his fifth scoreless start of the season as the Richmond Flying Squirrels shut out the Altoona Curve, 1-0, on Tuesday night at The Diamond. The Flying Squirrels (25-27) picked up their third shutout win in the last seven games to open the series against the Curve (16-36). Bertrand tossed six scoreless innings and struck out eight batters, tying his career high set with the Flying Squirrels last September. The Curve’s Bubba Chandler allowed just one unearned run in five innings. Chandler struck out five batters in his outing and ...

Bullpen blues continue to haunt Curve

By Jarrod Prugar For the Mirror The Altoona Curve fell 10-4 to the Portland Sea Dogs in front of 3,597 fans at PNG Field Sunday afternoon. The Curve’s loss was their third straight loss to the Sea Dogs, the first two of which were devastating extra-inning defeats. It was yet another game where Altoona manager Robby Hammock and his staff were left scratching their heads, much like they have throughout the 2024 season. “We have no answers,” Hammock said. “We’re waiting for somebody to step up. We actually need more than one person. We need multiple people to step up ...

Curve unable to hold on to late lead in loss

By Matt Michelone For the Mirror Friday night’s game between the Altoona Curve and Portland showed just how crazy of a sport baseball can be sometimes. For the first seven innings, the 5,164 fans at Peoples Natural Gas Field were treated to a pitcher’s duel. Once the bottom of ...

Curve go team route to pick up close win

By Jarrod Prugar For the Mirror The Altoona Curve came back from a 3-0 first-inning deficit to outlast the Portland Sea Dogs, thanks to a 6-5 win in front of 3,863 fans at PNG Field Thursday night. It was a back-and-forth night after the Curve overtook the Sea Dogs with a four-run fifth inning. One of the key hitters was Altoona right fielder Sammy Siani who had an RBI single in the fifth and finished the game going 2-for-4 with two RBI. “We had a lot of guys put together a lot of really good at bats,” Siani said. “Guys are seeing the ball and taking their walks when we ...

Coffey too strong for Curve ‘O’

By Jarrod Prugar For the Mirror The Altoona Curve offense was held at bay in Wednesday night’s 6-2 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs in front of 3,063 fans at PNG Field. The offense struggled mightily against Sea Dogs starter Isaac Coffey and his funky side arm delivery. “He just gave us a different look,” Curve manager Robby Hammock said. “We just couldn’t quite square him up. We had some opportunities with runners in scoring position, but it was all with two outs mostly and we just needed that big knock and couldn’t quite come through.” Coffey allowed only one ...

Early runs get things going in Curve win

By Jarrod Prugar For the Mirror The Altoona Curve scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 6-4 win over Portland Tuesday night in front of 3,887 fans at PNG Field. Centerfielder Jase Bowen knocked home shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng to get the first run across. It was the first of three RBIs for Bowen on the evening, and was the start the Curve needed to get only their sixth win at home on the season. “It’s huge,” Bowen said. “We really haven’t put a lot of runs up for our pitching staff. To get them some runs early is some stress off ...
