Minor League Baseball announced that Curve pitcher Nick Dombkowski has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the week.
Dombkowski turned in a career-best performance on Wednesday against Erie with six no-hit innings. The 28-year-old left-hander allowed just one baserunner with six strikeouts to lead a 6-1 win over the SeaWolves. He became the first Curve pitcher to start a game with six no-hit innings since Roansy Contreras on May 11, 2021.
Dombkowski was signed as an undrafted free agent in July of 2021 by the Pirates and has suited up for Altoona for 82 career appearances in which he holds a 3.49 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP. In four August starts with the Curve, Dombkowski has gone 2-2 with a 3.50 ERA allowing just 10 hits and three walks in 18 innings with 19 strikeouts.
The Curve travel to Harrisburg this week for their final road trip of the season. Tuesday's game against the Senators is set for 6:30 p.m.
Umpire leaves game
CINCINNATI -- Home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez left Monday's game between the San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds after becoming overheated.
Gonzalez went to the ground at the end of the fourth inning of a hot, humid night and had to be helped by the Reds trainers with what the team said was heat exhaustion. Trainers attended to Gonzalez for several minutes and a cart was brought out on the field, but turned around when Gonzalez was able to get up and slowly walk to the dugout.
The Reds said Gonzalez was treated for elevated blood pressure and dehydration. His blood pressure returned to normal levels and he was resting comfortably, according to the team.
