BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Murf Gray hit his fifth Double-A home run and Titus Dumitru recorded four RBIs in a three-hit game as Altoona defeated Binghamton, 7-5, on Thursday night at Mirabito Stadium.
Gray hammered his 28th home run of the season in the top of the first inning, a two-run shot off Binghamton starter Noah Hall. He added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and a base-hit hit in the seventh to finish the day 2-for-4 with three RBI. Gray leads all Pirates Minor Leaguers with 123 hits and is second in home runs. He has reached base safely in 25-of-26 games with the Curve.
Dumitru brought a run home in each of his final four trips to the plate, knocking an RBI single in the third and a triple in the fifth. He followed with another RBI single in the seventh before a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Dumitru finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI, a season-high. He has recorded back-to-back three hit games and set a new career-high with 59 RBI this season.
Nick Dombkowski earned his first win with Altoona this season, tossing five innings and allowing just two base runners on back-to-back singles in the second. He matched his season-high with seven strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
Jaycob Deese tossed a scoreless eighth inning in relief after Jake Shirk struck out three over two innings. Shirk allowed a pair of runs in relief. Aaron Shortridge allowed a two-run home run before closing out the game in the ninth.
Keiner Delgado reached base four times and finished with three hits in the win. Altoona recorded 11 hits to snap a two-game losing streak.
