Altoona Curve fall in regular-season finale to Erie SeaWolves

ERIE — The Erie SeaWolves rallied for a 7-5 win over the Curve on Sunday afternoon at UPMC Park.

The SeaWolves earned a win in five of the six games played last week, including the last four, to finish in a tie with the Curve at 39-30 for the Eastern League Southwest Division second-half title, but Erie officially won the title on a tiebreaker after already winning the first-half crown.

The Curve, however, had already earned a playoff spot.

Erie and Altoona will meet in the best-of-three Southwest Division series beginning on Tuesday at Peoples Natural Gas Field with games 2 and 3, if necessary in Erie on Thursday and Friday.

The Curve built a 5-2 lead after the top of the sixth inning with two RBIs from Nick Cimillo and two hits each from from Duce Gourson and Konnor Griffin.

Javier Rivas and Mitch Jebb added bases-loaded hits in the fifth inning to pad the lead, however, Erie rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and eventually took the lead on a two-run single from Kevin McGonigle.

Erie’s bullpen held the Curve without a base runner over the final three innings in the regular-season finale.

Saturday’s game
