ERIE -- Seth Beer broke a scoreless game with his second home run of the season on Wednesday afternoon as Altoona shut out the Erie SeaWolves, 2-0, at UPMC Park.
The game was scoreless throughout the first six innings, but a rain delay of nearly 90 minutes halted the game. Altoona starter Sean Sullivan worked six innings before the delay for Altoona, and navigated the Erie order with fine-toothed comb. He struck out three batters, while allowing four hits and two walks issued. Sullivan has now tossed 15 consecutive scoreless innings over his last four appearances for the Curve.
Coming out of the rain delay, Altoona turned to Eddy Yean, who tossed a scoreless frame and earned the win before Nick Dombkowski picked up a two-inning save, striking out two batters with one hit allowed.
Erie had the game-tying runner at the plate late when Dombkowski slammed the door with a strikeout. Catcher Wyatt Hendrie threw out a base runner at first to end the game.
Both Altoona runs came in the top of the eighth inning -- Beers' home run, and then Sammy Siani lifted a sacrifice fly to extend Altoona's lead to 2-0. The Curve finished with nine hits, the second most of the season for the Curve.
Tonight Altoona is back at it again with a first-pitch set for 6:05 p.m.
