Sammy Siani knocked an RBI triple for his first Double-A hit, but it was the only bright spot generated by the Curve on Tuesday morning in an 8-1 defeat to the Somerset Patriots at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Somerset (13-14) slugged seven extra-base hits in the contest, the most allowed by the Curve this season. The Patriots had 10 hits in the win, with five doubles and a pair of two-run home runs from Agustin Ramirez and J.C. Escarra, both hit off Altoona starter Sean Sullivan.
Sullivan allowed a lead-off double to Spencer Jones to open the game before Ramirez connected to propel Somerset ahead in the first. Jordan Groshans smacked an RBI double later in the first to make it a 3-0 game.
Escarra launched a two-run shot in the third off Sullivan, who allowed five runs on four hits with a season-high six strikeouts in four innings.
Cameron Junker tossed two scoreless innings of relief before Justin Meis allowed three runs in relief. Grant Ford tossed a scoreless ninth inning for the Curve (6-22).
Siani, who went 1-for-4 in the loss, scored Seth Beer with his triple. It was one of five hits for the Curve, as Bailey Dees tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win for Somerset.
Relievers Yorlin Calderon, Josh Maciejewski, and Kevin Stevens closed out the win.
Altoona continues its series with the Patriots tonight at 6 p.m.
