No matter what level, opening day serves as a beacon of hope and excitement for fans and players alike.
"It's a blast, I've made a lot of good friends here," Curve reliever Brad Case said. "It's been cool to grow those relationships and get to know the great people who live in this town."
Fans started the afternoon off lining up at the gates more than two hours before first pitch before entering the stadium for their first look at the 2024 rendition of the Altoona Curve.
The pomp and circumstance of the home opener is uniquely unmatched between the rosters being announced to fans seeing what's new at the ballpark.
Familiar ballpark smells permeated through the air as fans meandered through a new-look concourse with strategically placed vending machines and beer coolers while pre-game festivities were well underway.
As for the action on the field, fans were treated to a game full of excitement with long balls aplenty and a lot of offense with teams racking up 21 hits and 15 runs.
A pitcher's nightmare, sure, but the hot bats added to a night that featured an uncharacteristically warm night for April with a first-pitch temperature of 77 degrees in a game that Curve won in extra innings.
Those in attendance were treated to schedule magnets as they walked in the stadium, free baseball and much, much more throughout the evening.
