BOWIE, Md. -- The Curve dropped their fourth straight game on Wednesday morning, losing 5-0 at Bowie in an Eastern League matchup for Altoona.
The Curve got just five hits, all from five different players. The last baserunner of the game for Altoona was a leadoff single in the fifth inning by Wyatt Hendrie. Carlos Tavera retired 12 straight batters to end the game for Bowie (6-5). Seven of those outs came via a strikeout.
Chris Gau started for Altoona (4-6), allowing two runs on three hits in two innings. One of those hits was a two-run homer to TT Bowens. Justin Meis worked three innings in relief, allowing just one run, a home run from Frederick Bensocome in the fourth.
Jaycob Deese made his Double-A debut for Altoona, but gave up a two-run homer to Billy Cook. He worked just two-thirds of an inning. Eddy Yean finished with 2• scoreless innings of work. He struck out two.
The Curve struck out 11 times in a game in which Abrahan Gutierrez saw his seven-game hitting streak end.
Game notes: Before the game, Francisco Acuna, an infielder for Altoona, was placed on the Development List by the Pirates. Deese arrived from Class-A Greensboro before the game. ... Bubba Chandler pitches tonight for Altoona against Bowie's Alex Pham.
