BOWIE, Md. -- Mason Martin smacked his seventh home run of the season for Altoona on Sunday, but an early two-run home run from Coby Mayo was instrumental for Bowie to beat the Curve, 5-2, at Prince George's Stadium.
Martin slugged the shot off Bowie starter Justin Armbruester in the top of the fourth inning. The solo shot to right field was the lone run allowed by Armbruester, who went five innings to earn the win, allowing four hits.
Martin scored Altoona's second run in the sixth inning. He drew a one-out walk off reliever Carlos Tavera and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Jared Jones got the start for the Curve, allowing two runs on four hits in four innings to take the loss. He allowed the two-run home run to Mayo in the bottom of the first inning. Jones did not walk a batter and struck out six.
Matt Eckelman entered in the fifth inning and allowed three quick runs to Bowie.
Travis MacGregor went 1.1 innings, retiring all four batters he faced with two strikeouts. Tyler Samaniego and Tahnaj Thomas each tossed a perfect inning of relief.
The Curve loss led to a split of the six-game series between Altoona and Bowie as the Curve fell to 18-19 on the season.
Altoona is off on Monday before returning home to begin a 12-game homestand at PNG Field.
Saturday's game
Liover Peguero crushed two home runs across the first two innings for Altoona as the Curve defeated the Baysox, 6-4, in a rain-shortened six-inning game on Saturday.
It was the third career multi-homer game for Peguero and the fourth by a Curve batter this season.
Henry Davis hit his 10th home run of the season.
