With just 43 days until opening day, the Altoona Curve on Wednesday revealed the full promotional schedule for the 2023 season, part of the year-long 25th season celebration at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
"The release of the promotional schedule is something that we look forward to each spring," Curve general manager Nate Bowen said. "Our staff dedicates a lot of time in the offseason to planning all the celebrities, entertainment acts, giveaways and zany ideas. The announcement of the promotions brings us one step closer to opening day and our year-long 25th season celebration."
This season's promotional schedule features 18 fireworks shows, guest appearances by Brad Eldred, Alex Presley, actor Dwier Brown, one-time Pittsburgh Penguin Paul Coffey and professional wrestler Jake "The Snake" Roberts plus dozens of unique giveaways and theme nights.
The season begins on Thursday, April 6, on opening day with a Brad Eldred appearance at home when the Curve host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 6 p.m. Eldred is one of the most celebrated players in Curve history and makes his first official return since his playing days in 2004-2005. Fans will enjoy the first post-game fireworks show of the season with a Journey and Steve Perry themed music.
The season's opening weekend homestand against New Hampshire continues Friday, April 7, with a 2023 Poster Schedule Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans. The first homestand of the season wraps up on Saturday, April 8, with a special 1 p.m. first pitch for Easter at the Ballpark.
Some of the big promotions on the schedule for the season include:
n The team will wear Allegheny Yinzers jerseys for every Sunday home game except on Aug. 13. There will also be a Yinzer Rally Towel Giveaway on Sunday, April 23.
n In honor of Altoona's Italian heritage in the area, the team will be renamed the Altoona Pizzas for games Aug. 8-13 with pizza-designed uniforms.
n The Curve will wear Halloween-themed jerseys on Saturday, May 13.
n The Curve will wear patriotic-themed jerseys for the Fourth of July, which is on a Tuesday this year.
n On June 2, the team will hand out Altoona Curve Mount Rushmore figurines with Adam Hyzdu, Eldred, Bronson Arroyo and Andrew McCutchen on them.
n On July 6, the team will hand out a commemorative Curve MVP baseball card set.
n On July 7, the team will hand out 25th season Curve rings.
The lone bobblehead giveaway will be on Aug. 4 when the teams give out "The Joker" on super villan night.
The special appearances will also include Brown, from the "Field of Dreams" movie, who played Kevin Costner's father in the baseball-laced drama. That night is scheduled for June 24.
Pro wrestling fans can come out on Aug. 10 for Roberts. Penguins fans can come out for Coffey on Aug. 3.
Of the specialty nights/days, the Curve will celebrate Robert Clemente Night on July 21.
