The Altoona Curve are entering their 25th season in 2023 and are throwing it back in a big way to kickstart the season with their Inaugural Curve Charities Roaring Twenties Gala Saturday night at the Jaffa Shrine.

The gala is roaring twenties themed, an ode to the current decade and a way to incorporate a lot of things into what will be the first of many events for the Curve this season.

“We chose the 1920s theme because we are in the new 20s decade and are excited about the different elements we can bring into the night,” general manager Nate Bowen said.

Those elements include a performance from local rock band Shallow 9, a silent auction with different sports memorabilia and the Curve’s home white uniforms and much more.

The featured guest for the gala is former Pirate Neil Walker who will be returning to Altoona where he spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons en route to his MLB debut in 2009.

Saturday night’s will benefit Altoona Curve Charities, a 501(c)(3) organization.

“This is the first major fundraising event for Curve Charities,” Bowen said. “The funds go to support local organizations who are involved with youth athletics and education.”

The gala is just the beginning of a season full of former player appearances and events with many more to be announced in the future.

It was important for Bowen and the organization to have an offseason event that not only benefits a great cause, but also brings fans back together ahead of the season which is rapidly approaching.

“I’m most looking forward to bringing the Altoona Curve family back together for an offseason event for a great cause,” Bowen said.

Tickets for the event are $100 for two tickets and can be purchased on the Altoona Curve website until tonight at 11:59 p.m.
