Henry Davis stole third base in the eighth inning to set the Altoona Curve's single-season team stolen base record as Altoona fell in the season finale to Reading, 9-8, on Sunday at PNG Field.
Davis's stolen base was the 160th of the season for the Curve, passing the mark set in 2014 for the most in team history. It came one day after Altoona set the franchise record for home runs hit in a season.
The Curve gave Reading nine runs in the third and fourth innings to fall behind 9-2. The Curve rallied to score six unanswered and leave the game-tying run on base in the eighth and ninth innings.
Fabricio Macias hit a two-run home run off Brett Schulze in the fourth inning, his fourth with Altoona. Nick Gonzales hit a one-out triple in the fifth and scored on a Malcom Nunez groundout. The Curve then scored three runs in the eighth inning on RBI singles from Andres Alvarez and Matt Fraizer, as well as a Macias RBI groundout. Josh Bissonette hit an RBI-single in the third inning off Ethan Lindow to score Altoona's first run. Gonzales later hit a sacrifice fly in the inning.
The Curve used eight pitchers in the contest.
Altoona finished the 2022 season with a 71-66 overall record. The Curve were 33-36 in the first half of the season and 38-30 in the second half, finishing in third place.
Altoona opens its 25th season on April 6, 2023 when the Curve host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Team honors
Prior to Saturday's game, the Curve announced their 2022 recipients for their team awards.
Infielder Jared Triolo was named the team's Most Valuable Player, relievers J.C. Flowers and Tahnaj Thomas were named the team's Firemen of the Year, right-hander Luis Ortiz was named the team's Pitcher of the Year and infielder Andres Alvarez was named the team's Unsung Hero.
Home run mark
Connor Scott smashed two home runs for the Curve to set a new franchise record with 142 home runs hit as Altoona defeated Reading, 6-1, on Saturday night in front of 7,631 fans at PNG.
It was the second multi-home run game of Scott's career and first with the Curve. It was also the sixth two-home run game this season by a Curve batter.
Scott hit a solo home run in the fifth inning off Phillies No. 2 prospect Mick Abel. He followed it up with a three-run shot in the eighth inning off Tyler McKay to give Altoona a 6-0 lead. Matt Gorski scored two runs on a two-run single in the fifth off Abel.
The Curve finished with 143 homers, breaking the mark of 141 set in 2005.
