ERIE -- The Curve managed only two hits Sunday, but still amazingly scored five runs and played 11 innings.
The offensive issues still cost Altoona in a 6-5 loss to Erie at UPMC Park in the series finale.
The Curve will enter the final six games of the season trailing co-leaders Erie and Bowie by 3½ games in the Southwest Division, and trailing Akron by 1½ games, so the playoff hopes are on life support.
The SeaWolves had 13 hits to only two for Altoona on Sunday, but the game was still tied at 3-3 after nine innings. Both teams scored in the 10th, Altoona scored once in the 11th and then Erie won with two runs in the 12th.
Brad Case (1-3) lost in relief for Altoona. Liover Peguero had a home run for one of the club's two hits.
Saturday, Aaron Shackelford made Curve history by moving into second place on the team's single-season home run list with 26. The Curve beat Erie, 13-6.
Adam Hyzdu set the Curve record with 31 homers in 2000. Josh Bonifay had been second with 25, but Shackelford moved past him with his 26th long ball.
The Curve will begin their final series of the season Tuesday night against Reading at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
