ERIE -- The Curve are closing the season on a strong note, and while their playoff hopes may not be great, there are other goals to play for down the stretch.
Altoona pounded Erie, 8-1, Tuesday night UPMC Park to open this week's series with a victory after taking four of six last week against Akron.
The Curve are still 4½ games back in the playoff chase with only 11 games to, and they'd have to beat out three teams in order to claim a spot. Still, Tuesday's win moved the club two games over .500 for the season at 64-62, and finishing with a winning record certainly would be a nice way to close things out.
The win also moved Altoona to 31-26 in the second half.
Endy Rodriguez had a pair of RBI doubles and went 3-for-4 to up his average to .361. Malcom Nunez homered for the Curve, who scored three runs in the third and seventh innings.
Aaron Shortridge (2-4) got the win, giving up just three hits and one unearned run over five innings.
