BOWIE, Md. -- Connor Scott made one of the great catches ever for the Curve to help win Saturday night, but the team got handed a crushing blow Sunday afternoon at Bowie.
Altoona led by a run entering the bottom of the ninth, looking for a series split. Then the Baysox sent the Curve home hugely disappointed with a two-run, walk-off homer for a 5-4 win at Prince George's Stadium.
The loss was a bad one for the Curve's playoff chances, as they are now 6¢ games behind co-leaders Bowie and Erie in the Southwest Division with only 18 games left to play. Had Altoona won Sunday, it would be 4¢ behind Bowie and 5¢ behind Erie.
The Curve also are behind Akron, so trying to overcome three teams in 18 games is an enormous task.
Altoona took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning Sunday on an RBI single by Malcom Nunez. Bowie then won it on Colton Cowser's two-run homer in the ninth off J.C. Flowers (7-6).
Altoona won Saturday night in 10 innings, 10-8, thanks to Scott's game-saving catch in the ninth. He leapt over the right field fence to steal what would have been a walk-off homer from Hudson Haskin to send the game to extra innings.
Scott then had an RBI single as the Curve scored three runs in the 10th to win it. Tyler Samaniego (3-3) got the victory in relief.
