AKRON, Ohio -- The Curve continued their hot start to the second half with a victory Wednesday night, although there was some disappointing news earlier in the day.
Altoona beat Akron, 6-3, at Canal Park to improve to 5-2 in the second half. The teams opened the series Wednesday night after getting postponed Monday because of civil unrest following a shooting in Akron.
The Curve scored four runs in third inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Aaron Shackelford. He leads the club with 13 homers and raised his RBI total to 43.
Jared Triolo and Matt Fraizer had three hits apiece for the Curve. Carmen Mlodzinski (2-4) gave up two runs over five innings to earn the win, and Tyler Samaniego picked up his fifth save.
The bad news for the Curve was that slugger Matt Gorski was transferred to the 60-day injured list with a quad injury suffered last week. Gorski led the minor leagues with 23 homers at the time of his injury, which he suffered running to third base on a triple.
Monday's postponed game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday in Akron.
