AKRON, Ohio — The Curve finished up a good week here with a great performance Sunday afternoon.
Altoona pounded Akron, 11-1, at Canal Park to win the series, four games to two. The Curve will return home Tuesday with an 8-4 record in the second half of the Eastern League season.
The Curve led throughout Sunday after scoring two runs in the third inning and stretching the margin to 5-0 by the sixth. Altoona then poured it on with five runs in the ninth inning before hopping on the bus and returning home.
Blake Sabol went 3-for-5 with his ninth home run and also drove in four runs. Andres Alvarez smacked his 12th home run and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
All of that was plenty of support for Quinn Priester, who tossed five shutout innings and gave up four hits. He struck out six with no walks in earning his first Double-A victory.
The Curve lost Saturday night, 7-3, squandering a bunch of opportunities and leaving 12 men on base while striking out 12 times.
The Curve got off to a slow start in the first half but have reversed that in the second half to put themselves near the top of the division standings.
