AKRON, Ohio -- Friday was shaping up to be a really bad day for the Curve, but they pulled out some good news at the end to finish on a positive note.
Early Friday, catcher Henry Davis was placed on the seven-day injured list with left wrist injury. Davis, last year's No. 1 overall draft pick, missed nearly three weeks shortly after joining the Curve while dealing with a minor wrist fracture.
The Curve then played a doubleheader at Akron later Friday and dropped the first game, 8-3. They got up big in the second game, only to squander the lead as the RubberDucks battled back. But Altoona wound up winning in eight innings, 6-5, at Canal Park.
Jared Triolo's RBI groundout scored Matt Fraizer from third to give the Curve the lead in the eighth.
Akron then failed to score as Tyler Samaniego pitched the final inning for his sixth save. J.C. Flowers (5-5) got the victory in relief.
The Curve, 7-3 on the season, scored three runs in the first inning and were up 5-1 before Akron tied things with four runs in the fourth.
Altoona led 3-2 in the fourth inning of the first game before Akron scored five runs in its half of the fourth to take control. Brad Case (0-1) lost in relief.
