Curve drop first game of series
From Mirror reports
BOWIE, Md. — There’s a tight race in the division standings early on in the second half, and the Curve’s series here this week could play a big role in the jockeying for position.
Bowie handed Altoona an 11-5 loss Tuesday in the opener of a six-game series at Prince Georges Stadium. The Baysox entered the day with a half-game lead over the Curve in the Southwest Division and pushed the margin to a game and a half with the win.
Erie also is in the mix at a game back.
It’s still very early in the second half — just one third of the way through — but the Curve need to win at least a couple of games during the series this week to avoid falling falling too far behind the Baysox at this stage.
Bowie lit up the scoreboard early Tuesday with nine runs over the first four innings, including three apiece in the first and third. Curve starter Carmen Mlodzinski lasted only one inning, allowing three runs, and reliever Bear Bellomy gave up six runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Aaron Shackelford hit his team-leading 17th homer for the Curve, while Connor Scott belted a two-run shot in the ninth as part of a 3-for-4 night.
Tonight: Altoona at Bowie, 6:35 p.m.
