Curfew wipes out Curve-Akron game

AKRON, Ohio -- Due to Akron's city-wide curfew, the Akron RubberDucks postponed the game against the Altoona Curve scheduled for Monday.

The curfew is in place due to protests that escalated after nightfall on Sunday.

"Early yesterday, we had several peaceful protests in the downtown footprint related to the officer-involved shooting of Jayland Walker,'' Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan said in a statement released to the media. "These protests did not escalate to violence and destruction. … However, as night fell and others began to join, the protests became no longer peaceful. There was significant property damage done to downtown Akron. Small businesses up and down Main St. have had their windows broken. We cannot and will not tolerate violence or the destruction of property."

Because of the scheduled off day for both teams today, the series between the RubberDucks and Curve is scheduled to resume Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.

Details on the makeup for the July 4 game will be released at a later date.
