ERIE -- The Curve had a big day Sunday, first during their game, and then with some great news after the contest.

Altoona beat Erie, 3-1, in the afternoon to earn a split in the six-game series at UPMC Park.

Later in the evening, the Pirates promoted the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, catcher Henry Davis, to Double-A. He's expected to be with the Curve when they open a homestand Tuesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Davis was off to an outstanding start at high-A Greensboro, batting .350 with five homers, 22 RBIs and an OPS of 1.048. He is rated as the Pirates' No. 2 prospect, behind only second baseman Nick Gonzales, who's also with the Curve.

Mike Burrows turned in another strong start for Altoona on Sunday, tossing four scoreless innings and allowing just one hit with six strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 1.35.

The Curve scored three runs in the fourth inning and made that hold up for the win. Zach Matson got the victory in relief, and Colin Selby earned his fourth save.

The Curve (11-15) were coming off a 2-1 loss to Erie on Saturday in extra innings in a game the team was out-hit in, 7-4.

Erie (15-11) won the game in the bottom of the 10th inning when Andrew Navigato singled home Daniel Cabrera. Altoona had tied the game in the top of the ninth when Blake Sabol singled home Gonzales.
