Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett is heading from the Arizona Cardinals to the Baltimore Ravens, a person with knowledge of the trade told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn't been completed.
Brissett started eight games for Arizona this season but was demoted to third-string quarterback after Gardner Minshew stepped in and led the Cardinals to a 33-30 comeback victory at Dallas.
The Ravens (4-4) desperately needed a quarterback after losing Lamar Jackson to a thumb injury and backup Tyler Huntley to a toe injury.
Jackson needs surgery on his right thumb and is out indefinitely. Huntley reportedly will miss the rest of the season.
Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will start for the Ravens against Jacksonville (5-2) tonight. Brissett likely would start against the Chargers on Nov. 15.
The 33-year-old Brissett is 23-50 as a starter in 11 seasons with New England, Indianapolis, Miami, Cleveland, Washington and Arizona. He had two stints with the Patriots, who drafted him in the third round in 2016 to back up Tom Brady.
Brissett has completed 63.3% of his passes this season for 1,719 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Good news in Detroit
ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell says he has full movement in his lower body and is continuing to make progress with movement in his upper body days after he was carted off the field on a backboard during a game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell suffered a neck injury early in the fourth quarter of the 19-15 win over the Vikings on Sunday. He was alert and breathing when he was taken to the hospital, where he has been recovering since his injury. Campbell says "I know there's still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic."
Positive for Parsons
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Micah Parsons is practicing again with the Green Bay Packers as the All-Pro edge rusher approaches a return from the torn anterior cruciate ligament that has sidelined him since last December.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday that Parsons would be participating in individual drills at that day's practice session. Parsons' return to practice means the Packers now have 21 days before they need to activate him from injured reserve. Parsons had 12.5 sacks in 13 games.
Watson in protocol
BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been placed in the concussion protocol after experiencing symptoms Monday night.
If Watson is not cleared in time for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, Shedeur Sanders would get his first start of the season. Watson took a helmet-to-helmet hit during the first quarter of last week's 27-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Watson was given a gameday concussion evaluation and cleared by the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant. The 10-year veteran returned to the game and completed 27 of 39 passes for 324 yards, his second straight 300-yard game.
QB change in Philly
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Eagles are turning to Joe Milton as their starting quarterback Sunday against the New York Giants. Milton has appeared in five NFL games in relief, including the Dallas Cowboys' season finale at the Giants in January.
The Eagles made the move two days after coach Nick Sirianni had said they were sticking with Tanner McKee after Jalen Hurts was sidelined for the season because of blood clots. McKee was 0-3 since taking over as the starter, and Philadelphia has lost six in a row after winning its first two games.
Darnold out
The Seattle Seahawks will be without starting quarterback Sam Darnold on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals because of a quad injury.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald announced Wednesday that backup Drew Lock will step in for Darnold. Lock started one game earlier this season against the Cardinals in Arizona and played most of the season opener against the New England Patriots after Darnold suffered a glute injury.
Aiyuk coming back
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Receiver Brandon Aiyuk has applied to be reinstated to the San Francisco 49ers from the reserve/left squad list and plans to report to the team later this week.
Aiyuk's new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Wednesday that Aiyuk has officially submitted his paperwork to the NFL to get back and is planning to return to the 49ers on Friday.
He hasn't played a game in more than two years since going down with a knee injury in October 2024 and has been on the reserve/left squad list after leaving the Niners late last season.
Elsewhere in the NFL:
– The 5-2 Jaguars, 9.5-point favorites, have a comfortable lead in the division and face an overmatched opponent missing Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley. Undrafted rookie QB Joe Fagnano will make his first career start for the Ravens (4-4) and possibly his last following a trade for Jacoby Brissett. Handing the ball off to Derrick Henry 40 times seems like a sound strategy but Jacksonville has the No. 1 run defense in the NFL. Baltimore hasn't covered the spread in five straight games.
