Ohio State coach Ryan Day said Tuesday night that quarterback Julian Sayin will be out indefinitely after injuring his throwing arm in the fourth quarter Saturday against Indiana.

Day did not want to set a timeline for the junior's return, but he left open the possibility that it could be for the rest of the season.

"We are putting together a plan for him not being available for the regular season and then also him not being available for the postseason," Day said. "So based on that, if he's not able to return this fall, we're putting a plan together for that as well."

The third-ranked Buckeyes (6-1, 4-0 Big Ten) are on their bye week after rallying for a 19-15 victory over sixth-ranked Indiana. That gives Day, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and the rest of the coaching staff time to evaluate if Luke Fahey or Tavien St. Clair is the best option at quarterback going into a pivotal primetime test at No. 16 Southern California on Oct. 31.

Day said Fahey has had the edge the past couple of weeks. The freshman played 10 snaps against the Hoosiers and went 0 for 2. Fahey has played three games this season and is 9 of 13 for 203 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

St. Clair, a sophomore, has played two games and is 5 of 7 for 52 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Breaking the law in Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon coach Dan Lanning said he's still gathering information about the arrest of wide receiver Evan Stewart and that appropriate action will be taken.

Stewart was arrested on charges of driving under the influence early Sunday, following the Ducks' come-from-behind 17-14 victory over Nebraska on Saturday night. Stewart was booked into Springfield Municipal Jail, according to the Springfield Police Department.

"There was an incident this weekend that didn't match our standard here in our program," Lanning said Monday night. "There will be an appropriate action taken. Still gathering some details with what that situation looks like. But that would be handled internally. I'm not gonna respond to any other questions about that. We're gonna handle that with our guys."

Lanning said the incident was unfortunate because it cast a shadow on the Ducks' win.

Oregon (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) is at Illinois (3-3, 1-2) on Saturday.

Auburn standout leaving

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn standout linebacker Xavier Atkins is no longer with the program.

Atkins made the announcement late Monday on social media, saying he plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens later this year. The Tigers have since removed Atkins from their online roster.

Atkins sat out last week's upset of then-No. 1 Georgia for undisclosed reasons, with coach Alex Golesh saying he would keep the details "in house."

Golesh offered no update on Atkins Monday other than saying they are "still working through it."

Atkins earned second-team All-America honors after a breakout sophomore season in 2025. In five games this season, he has 37 tackles, including three sacks, and an interception.

Without Atkins, sophomore Bryce Deas and junior De'Marcus Riddick are expected to take on larger roles alongside Elijah Melendez.

"I have nothing but respect Auburn University and will continue to support my teammates this season," Atkins posted on X. "My focus is on my health, my family and on finishing up the academic semester strong."
