NFL not upset with handling of Hurts

NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia Eagles are not being punished for how they handled quarterback Jalen Hurts' blood clots, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Allen Sills offered a passionate defense of how the Eagles treated Hurts at the NFL owners' meetings on Tuesday.

"I have complete confidence in the Eagles' medical staff and their handling of this situation, and I would characterize their work as very conservative, very patient-focused and appropriately guarded at every step," Sills said. "I don't think you can take that outcome and say there was something flawed about the process. Sometimes in medicine, we do all the right things and diseases progress and other things develop. In this case, everyone was incredibly conservative and incredibly vigilant and was very quick to make diagnoses of these conditions that might not have been diagnosed in a nonathlete."

That followed a statement from the league that said officials had been in contact with Philadelphia's medical personnel and the Cleveland Clinic in London throughout the process.

Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season after a blood clot traveled from his left calf to his lungs.

Steelers sign WR

PITTSBURGH -- Marquez Valdes-Scantling is back with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team signed the veteran wide receiver to the practice squad after a spate of injuries at the position.

Valdes-Scantling, 32, spent part of the 2025 season with Pittsburgh, catching 10 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in five games. Pittsburgh needs help at wide receiver after Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson were placed on injured reserve. The Steelers are Valdes-Scantling's third team in less than two months. He has been released by both the Cowboys and Chargers this year.

Najee let go

NEW YORK -- The New York Giants released running back Najee Harris 48 hours after he had just two carries for 4 yards in a 34-27 loss to New Orleans. The 28-year-old coming off a torn left Achilles tendon rushed for 99 yards in five games this season, an average of 3.2 yards a carry.

Harris started against the Saints when coach John Harbaugh and his staff reduced Cam Skattebo's role after the second-year running back fumbled in overtime at Washington the previous week.

n The NFL says security will be heightened for the game in Paris between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints on Sunday after protests engulfed the French capital last weekend. Executive VP of club business, international and league events Peter O'Reilly says the league's security team has been on the ground and that officials are working closely with Parisian police. O'Reilly says there was never a point that the game was in danger of not being played at Stade de France.
