Penn State trend can’t continue

2 min read

The definition of Penn State football is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Following last season's debacle, AD Pat Kraft had ample time to make a head coaching hire.

What did he do? After fumbling BYU's Kalani Sitake, Kraft hired a monotonous coach in Matt Campbell with a blue-collar "do more with less" approach.

If you're aware of what's holding PSU back, you know this was the exact opposite hire the program needed.

Who Penn State needed to hire: Bob Chesney.

A native Pennsylvanian, Chesney has done nothing but win at every stop he's been at, and there's a certain sense of flash and charisma with him that PSU desperately needs to move forward, not backward.

To no surprise, Kraft and co. stuck their noses up at him. Chesney is currently 6-0 with UCLA.

As a result of the unserious hire, the program is delivering an unserious product.

This is the fourth collapsed season this decade.

The coaches are clearly in over their heads, and the players look like they've regressed.

Campbell can't even call timeouts properly. He keeps referencing "learning from the past," but clearly didn't learn from what led to James Franklin's departure.

This cannot continue. It's become inexcusable in Un-Happy Valley. Penn State can be a perennial national contender if it so chooses. The resources are there.

It's time for Penn State to wake up, see this disaster for what it is, and make tough, but winning, decisions for once.
