CINCINNATI -- Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman left Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Reds after being struck in the face by a foul ball while standing near the on-deck circle.
Bregman was taken to a hospital for X-rays and CT scans. There was no decision yet on whether he would travel with the team back to Chicago following its 9-1 win.
In the fourth inning, Michael Busch checked his swing and fouled off a pitch from Reds right-hander Luis Mey that struck Bregman. He immediately jogged toward the Cubs dugout with his hand over his left eye. Bregman was escorted by training staff into the clubhouse.
Spaun fueled by Cup snub
VIRGINIA WATER, England -- J.J. Spaun was disappointed not to be picked for the U.S. Presidents Cup team.
He responded by winning Europe's flagship event in his debut at Wentworth.
Spaun made four birdies on his last five holes for a 67. That turned into a two-shot victory when Manuel Elvira chopped up the 18th hole for a double bogey when a par would have forced a playoff.
Elvira wound up in a four-way tie for second with Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and PGA champion Aaron Rai.
Spaun said he played with a chip on his shoulder wanting to prove he should've been picked.
