Altoona teams win invite

Altoona won both the boys and girls team titles at the 31st annual Altoona Mountain Lion Cross County Classic at the Logan Elementary Course on Saturday.
The boys were led by Seth Lieb's runner-up individual performance in 16 minutes, 55.12 seconds, and the girls got a second-place finish by Ashlyn Noce in 18:30.64.
Bedford senior Chloe May won the girls individual race in 17:48.0 and set a new course record, which had been set last year by Central graduate Lanee Berkhimer of 18:08.
Emma Etters was fifth for Altoona in 18:54.5, and Lana Luke was sixth in 20:14.9.
Bellwood-Antis, the Class 1A girls champion, got medalist performances from Blake Pennington (20:45.2, ninth) and Julie Kraft (21:05.9, 14th). Juniata Valley's Maggie Barton won a medal with an 18th-place finish in 21:15.5.
Miles Conrad of Punxsutawney won the boys race in 16:52.9. Altoona's Archie Glover was third in 16:55.6, and teammate T.J. Dunkle was 16th in 18:00.7.
Brenson Davis of Tyrone earned a medal in the boys race with an 11th-place finish in 17:43.6, and Christopher Corle won a medal for Northern Bedford in 14th in 17:49.9.

CC wins silver bracket
LORETTO -- Central Cambria's high school girls volleyball team won the Saint Francis University Invitational Tournament's Silver Bracket championship on Saturday at DeGol Arena.
Central Cambria went 4-4 in pool play in Pool E, losing to Northern Cambria, 26-24, 25-21, and Clarion-Limestone, 25-17, 25-20 and beating Bellwood-Antis, 25-17, 25-16, and Sugar Valley, 25-13, 25-13.
The Lady Blue Devils went 1-7 in the pool, splitting with Sugar Valley.
Bishop Carroll Catholic went 5-3 in Pool F with a win over Ferndale, 25-18, 25-19 and splits with Westmont Hilltop, West Branch and Williamsport.
Claysburg-Kimmel went 4-4 in Pool A with a wins over United, 25-22, 25-17 and Maplewood, 26-24, 25-20, and losses to Somerset, 25-21, 25-20, and Clearfield, 27-25, 25-17.
Northern Bedford went 1-7 in Pool B, splitting with Huntingdon.
In Pool C, Central went 3-5 with a win over Williamsburg, 26-24, 25-16, a split with Elk County Catholic and losses to Forest Hills and Mifflin County. Williamsburg went 0-8.
In Pool D, Penn Cambria went 6-2 with wins over Johnstown, 26-24, 25-18, Cambria Heights, 25-19, 25-12 and Philipsburg-Osceola, 25-21, 25-18, and a loss to Central Mountain, 25-20, 25-18. Heights went 3-5 with losses to Penn Cambria and Central Mountain, a split with P-O and a win over Johnstown, 25-19, 25-19.

Altoona makes semis
MECHANICSBURG -- Altoona fell in the silver semifinals, 25-11, to Williamsport of Maryland at the Cumberland Valley Volleyball Tournament Saturday in high school girls play.
The Lady Spikers defeated Elizabethtown, 25-21, in the quarterfinals and went 1-2 in pool play with a win over Cocalico, 14-25, 25-17, 15-9, and losses to Lower Dauphin, 25-20, 25-19, and Allentown Central Catholic, 25-17, 25-20.
Kayden Weyandt had 16 kills, seven digs and six blocks. Claire Betar had 23 digs and five assists, and Selena Lopez-Oakes dished out 30 assists and had four aces and digs each.
