NEWVILLE -- The Hollidaysburg boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Ben Bloser Invitational at Big Spring High School on Saturday.
The Hollidaysburg boys finished 20th in the field of 60 teams, led by senior Reuben Manfred, who won the 3A boys race in a time of 15:50 ahead of 398 other 3A boys runners. Freshman Mason Kephart also medaled in the race, finishing in 29th with a time of 16:28.
"Reuben Manfred had an eye-opening performance, breaking away from the field after the first mile marker and never looking back," Hollidaysburg coach Travis Singer said. "He's been working incredibly hard for months for an opportunity like this, to show that he belongs among some of the elite distance runners in the state."
Jack Singer finished in 139th place in 17:38, Mason Klock was 196th in 18:14, Liam Cannarsa was 238th in 18:37, Landon Krupka was 266th in 18:49 and Nathan Kanish was 290th in 19:14.
On the girls side, the Golden Tigers finished 38th in the 52 team field, and were led by Sophie Fiore's 97th-place finish in 20:59. Addison Smith followed in 21:44 for 157th place, Adalai Carney finished 195th in 22:07, Katie Etters was 204th in 22:15, Alexis Barger 256th in 22:55 and Ella Diaz finished in 263rd place in 23:00.
Portage and Williamsburg also competed at the event in the Class 1A field and the Lady Pirates' Ava Dixon finished in 21:54.3 to earn 19th place, and Emma Stone was 24th in 22:22.7. Portage's Josephine White earned a medal with a 22nd-place finish in 22:06.8. Richland's Natalia Mavridis won the race.
On the boys side, Tanner Ross was 13th for Williamsburg in 17:37.8.
