Texas is tops while Ducks take a tumble

There's a new No. 1 team in the AP Top 25: Texas snagged the top spot after a wild win against Ohio State, giving the Longhorns their earliest No. 1 regular-season ranking since 1965.
After losing 24-23 to Texas, the Buckeyes slid down five places to No. 6, leaving the top five for the first time in two seasons.
Oregon, meanwhile, plummeted 15 spots to No. 21 after a 39-31 road loss to an Oklahoma State team that had lost 21 straight against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents.
No. 19 Michigan returned to the poll thanks to a 17-10 win over then-No. 11 Oklahoma. The Wolverines had gone unranked last week, after they needed an extra second and a second-chance Hail Mary to beat Western Michigan.
Notre Dame is No. 3 after its 58-0 win over Rice, thanks to four touchdown passes from C.J. Carr. The Irish were No. 4 last week and did receive one first-place vote.

-- West Virginia is 2-0 for the first time since 2018 after a 52-7 win over UT Martin Saturday. The Mountaineers remain unbeaten all-time against teams from the Championship Subdivision. Mike Hawkins Jr. threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores for the Mountaineers. Hawkins had a 53-yard scoring toss to DJ Epps on the opening drive of the game and later had TD runs of 71 and 5 yards for a 28-0 halftime lead. Hawkins threw a 32-yard scoring toss to Ryan Ward to open the third quarter. Hawkins completed five of seven passes for 155 yards and rushed six times for 96 yards.
-- The Juniata College football team fell to 0-2 on Saturday, losing at Allegheny College, 27-0. Quarterback Ethan Eisenberg completed 15 of 28 passes for 130 yards and three interceptions in defeat. Defensively, Canyon King totaled 12 tackles forthe Eagles. Juniata, down 7-0 at halftime, returns home this Saturday to host McDaniel College for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
