A misdemeanor gun charge against All-Star Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden in Texas was dismissed after he completed an alternative resolution program allowing him to avoid a criminal record.
Court records show that a Harris County criminal court judge in Houston dismissed the charge Thursday at the request of the Harris County district attorney's office following Harden's completion of an alternative resolution program.
Such programs allow defendants to avoid a criminal conviction by doing community service, but court documents don't detail the terms of Harden's agreement. Harden was arrested June 13 in Houston after police found that he had a handgun in his vehicle in plain view.
Drugs affect Clarke's death
LOS ANGELES -- Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke died in May from the effects of heroin and cocaine, authorities said Friday.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said the 29-year-old basketball player's death was accidental.
Clarke was found dead inside a home near Los Angeles on May 11. A person familiar with the terms of the investigation told The Associated Press after the Grizzlies announced Clarke's passing that drug paraphernalia was found at the residence. The person had spoken on condition of anonymity because those details had not been released publicly.
Norway calls for ouster
MANCHESTER, England -- Norway's soccer federation wants Gianni Infantino to step down immediately, piling more pressure on FIFA's embattled president.
Infantino is facing a revolt after his failed plan to sell stakes in the World Cup. The Norwegian federation held a meeting on Thursday and president Lise Klaveness said the decision had been made to ask Infantino to resign.
Hossler leads in Wyndham
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Beau Hossler is the 36-hole leader at the Wyndham Championship after making an 11-foot birdie putt on the final hole.
That gave him a one-shot lead over Ben James and Jordan Smith.
But the more compelling drama was at the cut line. This is the final event of the regular season and only the top 70 in the FedEx Cup advance.
Keegan Bradley birdied three of his last six holes to finish at the projected cut. Two players had birdie chances that would have knocked out Bradley and two others who are just outside the top 70.
Texas Tech signs two
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Darrion Williams signed with Texas Tech to play a fifth season of college basketball, taking advantage of a recent court ruling that granted some players one more year of NCAA eligibility.
He is returning to the Lubbock campus after being North Carolina State's leading scorer last season.
The Red Raiders on Friday announced the signings of Williams, a 6-foot-6 forward who previously played for them from 2023-25, and 6-8 transfer forward Jamichael Stillwell from UCF.
