Dodgers getting back star pitcher Snell on Tuesday

PHOENIX -- Two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell is expected to make his return from the injured list when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.
Manager Dave Roberts also said Friday that recently-acquired lefty Tarik Skubal will make his home debut on Monday, also against the Royals.
The 33-year-old Snell has started just one game this season. The left-hander began the season on the injured list with shoulder fatigue, returned for one outing on May 9 against the Atlanta Braves, and then went back on the IL because he needed surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow.
Snell has missed significant time with injuries over the past three years, making just 32 regular-season starts. But he had a crucial role during the Dodgers' run to a second consecutive World Series title last season, striking out 41 batters over 34 innings with a 3.10 ERA.
Skubal -- the two-time defending Cy Young winner in the American League -- was dealt to the Dodgers from the Detroit Tigers in a trade deadline blockbuster last week. He made his first start on the road against the Chicago Cubs, giving up two runs over six innings in a 5-1 loss.
The Dodgers have lost a season-high six games in a row going into Friday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Twins lose ace Ryan
MILWAUKEE -- Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan has gone on the 15-day injured list due to a left glute strain. The Twins announced the move Friday among a series of transactions that included the promotion of 2024 first-round draft pick Kaelen Culpepper.
Culpepper made his MLB debut Friday and homered in the fourth inning as the Twins knocked off Milwaukee. Minnesota also recalled pitcher Zebby Matthews from Triple-A St. Paul, designated pitcher Taylor Rashi for assignment and optioned infielder Tristan Gray to St. Paul. Twins manager Derek Shelton wouldn't speculate on a possible return date for Ryan.
World Series vet activated
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Veteran left-hander Jordan Montgomery has been activated from the 60-day injured list by the Texas Rangers and will pitch out of their bullpen.
A key starter for the Rangers during their World Series championship run in 2023, Montgomery returned to the team in free agency at the start of spring training. At the time, he was still rehabbing from the Tommy John surgery he had after pitching for Arizona in 2024.
The playoff-chasing Rangers made the move before the opener of their three-game series against Baltimore.
Athletics letting GM go
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- David Forst won't return as general manager of the Athletics, with the team announcing Friday that the two sides have "mutually agreed to part ways."
Assistant general manager Dan Feinstein will work as interim GM for the remainder of the season as the team begins searching for a permanent replacement.
Forst received a new contract last September for this season, coming as the club continued a transition in California's capital region while waiting for a planned relocation to Las Vegas in 2028. The move comes with the Athletics sitting near the bottom of the AL West at 45-70. He had been GM since 2015 and with the organization since 2000.
Utley into Hall of Fame
PHILADELPHIA -- Chase Utley is still a beloved figure in Philadelphia. The six-time All-Star and second baseman from the 2008 World Series championship team has been inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame.
Utley is the third member of that championship team to earn the honor. Former teammate Jimmy Rollins greeted him during a celebration that included Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton. Utley played 13 seasons in Philadelphia.
