CINCINNATI -- Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart is expected to miss most of training camp after hyperextending his left knee during Wednesday's practice.
Coach Zac Taylor said after Thursday's practice that Stewart avoided a major injury, but that the second-year defensive lineman will miss several weeks.
Stewart, the Bengals' first-round draft pick in 2025, played in only eight games last season because of injuries. He had 11 tackles with one sack.
The Bengals invested heavily at defensive end in the offseason with free agent Boye Mafe and second-round pick Cashius Howell. Myles Murphy, their 2023 first-round pick, is a projected starter.
Cedric Johnson, a 2024 sixth-round pick, and Isaiah Foskey, claimed off waivers last season, are behind Stewart on the depth chart and will see additional snaps.
Saints
METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints coach Kellen Moore says defensive tackle Bryan Bresee left the opening practice of training camp with a noncontact knee injury that "doesn't look good."
Initial tests indicated the possibility of a season-ending ACL tear.
Moore says it looks like Bresee might have an ACL tear but that he and the team are seeking a second opinion. Moore says it took a few moments for Bresee to sense something was not right. Bresee was a first-round draft choice out of Clemson in 2023.
Buccaneers
TAMPA, Fla. -- Baker Mayfield feels "disrespected" by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is focused on playing his best football.
The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback didn't get the contract extension he sought and plans to play out the final season of his three-year, $100 million deal.
Mayfield, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft by Cleveland, revived his career in Tampa Bay after replacing Tom Brady in 2023.
He made the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons while leading the Bucs to consecutive NFC South titles. He was an MVP candidate through the first half of last season when the team started 6-2 but struggled with injuries and tailed off.
Chiefs
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The 27-year-old son of Chiefs assistant coach Eric Bieniemy has had his court appearances in connection with the shooting of his mother delayed pending a mental health evaluation.
Elijah Bieniemy faces three charges after the shooting of Mia Bieniemy at the couple's home in Virginia. He was arrested Monday and remains in custody.
Eric Bieniemy is currently away from the Chiefs, where he serves as offensive coordinator.
Giants
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Malik Nabers is still not a full participant in team practice sessions but the New York Giants' No. 1 receiver running routes and taking part in individual drills is the talk of their training camp.
Nabers is 10 months removed from tearing the ACL in his right knee and going through a lengthy road back that included a second cleanup surgery earlier this year. No one is publicly setting a timeline for a return.
