Report: Cubs cutting ties with Jameson Taillon

ST. LOUIS - The Chicago Cubs on Monday selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Andrew Wantz from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, the Cubs designated right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon for assignment.
Taillon, 34, went 2-6 with a 5.92 ERA in 15 starts this season with the Cubs. He was set to be a free agent at the end of the year after signing with the Cubs on a four-year, $68 million contract over the 2022-23 offseason. Taillon went 33-31 with a 4.21 ERA over 96 games in Chicago.
Wantz, 30, is 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA in seven appearances, including three starts, with the Iowa this season. Prior to being signed as a minor league free agent by the Cubs on June 6, Wantz was with the Tampa Bay organization.
Yanks down an All-Star
CHICAGO -- New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger is out four to six weeks with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain.
Bellinger was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, a day after he got hurt running the bases during a 3-1 win at Philadelphia. He had more tests on Monday that revealed the extent of the injury.
The loss of Bellinger, the MVP of this year's All-Star game, is another major injury for a New York team already playing without reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge, who has been out since May 31 because of a fractured rib. Designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton has been sidelined since April 24 because of a strained right calf.
A's lose two
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Athletics All-Star catcher Shea Langeliers and right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. will have season-ending surgeries today.
The A's injury report indicated Langeliers will have surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee and Leiter will have surgery to repair a right hip impingement. Langeliers was hitting .263 with 23 homers and 51 RBIs in 93 games before his injury. The 28-year-old became the first A's catcher to start an All-Star Game since Terry Steinbach in 1989.
Langeliers had been the subject of trade rumors as the A's struggle through another disappointing season. Leiter went on the injured list with a hip impingement for the second time this season last week.
He's back
NEW YORK -- The Atlanta Braves activated outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. from the injured list after the 2023 National League MVP missed almost seven weeks with a left hamstring strain.
Acuna was starting in right field and batting leadoff for Monday night's opener of a three-game series at the New York Mets. A five-time All-Star, Acuna is hitting .251 with seven homers, 22 RBIs and 15 steals in a season that has been shortened by two hamstring injuries. He was placed on the IL on June 9. Braves manager Walt Weiss recently said he expects Acuna will play primarily in right field, his normal position.
