Sinner beats Alcaraz in final

MONACO — Jannik Sinner beat defending champion Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (5), 6-3 on Sunday to win the Monte Carlo Masters for the first time and reclaim the No. 1 ranking from his biggest tennis rival.

“The result is amazing,” Sinner said. “Getting back to No. 1 means a lot for me.”

Four-time Grand Slam champion Sinner met seven-time major winner Alcaraz in their ninth final in what is often called the “Sincaraz” rivalry.

Kings bringing back Christie

Doug Christie will return for a second full season as coach of the Sacramento Kings despite the team having one of the worst seasons in franchise history.

A person familiar with the decision said Christie will return next season for the second year of a contract that also has a team option for 2027-28.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the decision.

n Doc Rivers is departing as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, according to ESPN on Sunday. The Bucks will embark on their third head coaching search in three years. The Bucks will pay Rivers his eight-figure salary for the 2026-27 season. The franchise and Rivers are discussing whether he will move to an advisory role in the organization, sources said.

n Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi and his staff on Saturday announced the 2026 recipients of the Ed Conway Award, presented annually to the most improved players during spring drills. Redshirt senior offensive lineman Kendall Stanley was the offensive honoree, while redshirt sophomore linebacker Davin Brewton earned the defensive award.
