LEWISBURG -- Kaden Henderson went to the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships as a member of the Hollidaysburg Area High School Golden Tigers. His coach, Baron Leonard, is happy he's on the team.
"His overall growth as a swimmer, a person and as a member of our team ... I could not be more impressed with him. He is a tremendous young man," said Leonard, who watched the junior finish 12th out of 32 swimmers in the 100-yard breaststroke Thursday at Bucknell University.
In the preliminary round, Henderson swam in heat 2 with seven others and finished with a time of 57.36. Out of the 32 swimmers who swam in the morning, Henderson had to finish in the top 16 which he did.
"His season was a tremendous success for him," Leonard said. "To drop the amount of time he dropped is almost unheard of at this level. To drop a second and a half, which he did, is extremely impressive."
In the finals at night, Henderson finished in 57.08.
"I thought both of his swims were really good," Leonard said. "He was coming off a long district YMCA meet this past Sunday. That was a lot of back-to-back swimming, but he came in the morning, stretched out, and this afternoon, he was able to loosen up and have a better back half."
Members of the Hollidaysburg girls team at Bucknell competing today and Saturday include Margaret Bandstra and Addison Smith, Jackie Bevan, Kiri Dougherty and Madalyn Brick
