Altoona girls should win another title in Class 6A

THE SCOOP: Despite losing a large chunk of its scoring from last year due to the graduation of Lanie Wilt and Melana Eyer, Altoona hasn't missed a beat this season and enters the District 4-6 postseason as the prohibitive favorite.

ANALYSIS: Altoona already owns a 44-point win over semifinal opponent Williamsport, which also lost to Hollidaysburg, State College and Tyrone this season.

State College has played well in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth this season and has some experienced players that have improved over their time at the varsity level. The Little Lions should be able to get past Mifflin County to set up a third matchup with Altoona this season.

Altoona downed State College on the road by 25 points and by 15 at the AAHS Fieldhouse, but the Lady Lions actually trailed that game at halftime because the Lady Little Lions got hot shooting from beyond 3-point range -- something that isn't common for State College. Altoona switched from a zone defense to a man-to-man in the second half and took control.

Zaelinh Nguyen-Moore has really allowed herself to become the leader of Altoona's offense after trying to fill a role last season. Around her players like Samantha Harpster and Kendall Cogan have also gained confidence and improved, and there are nights that Raylin Eyer can shoot another team out of the gym.
