Glendale’s Daniel Williams takes 285-pound title at Grove City tournament

GROVE CITY — Glendale’s Daniel Williams captured the 285-pound title of the Fred Bell Tournament on Saturday at Grove City High School.

The second-seeded Williams, who is 33-1 in his first season back from multiple knee injuries, capped off a 5-0 weekend with a 7-2 tiebreaker win over Laurel’s top-seeded Casey Wilson in the finals.

Williams reversed Wilson to his back for six points in the first tiebreaker period. Wilson escaped in the second tiebreaker but Williams won comfortably.

Williams, who was the only Glendale wrestler to place, had a pin, technical fall, major decision and a 4-2 win over Titusville’s Bryce Watkins in the semifinals.

Cuevas, Watt finish third

WINGATE — Bellwood-Antis’ Juliette Cuevas and Penn Cambria’s Bethany Watt finished third at 100 pounds and 136 pounds, respectively, on Saturday at the Bald Eagle Area Girls Tournament.

Cuevas, who is now 15-1, won by technical fall and a 16-9 decision to get to the semifinals. There she lost to Williamsport’s eventual runner-up Malaina Comfort, 12-4. Cuevas won by injury default over Sullivan County’s Juliana Price in 2:38 in the third place bout.

Watt reeled off two first-period pins to get to the semifinals, where she was pinned by Dallastown’s eventual champion Kenna Hoffman. Watt won by injury default to get third place.

Regionally, Bedford’s Mylah Steinbuch won a title at 235, while Bedford’s Aliza Brambley (106) and Huntingdon’s Noelle Rasmovicz (136) finished second.
