Red Flash men roll to big victory
LORETTO — Paris Papadatos and Trey Weiand both produced career nights to power the Saint Francis men’s basketball team past Penn State Shenango, 100-41, in area collegiate action Wednesday night.
Papadatos shot 7-for-14 from the floor, 3 of 7 from behind the arc and made both free throws on his way to a game-high 19 points. Weiand was 7-for-12 from the floor and 3 of 6 from 3-point land to finish with 17 points.
“Coming off a tough loss at Xavier, I thought we responded really well with our effort and the way we shared the ball,” SFU coach Luke McConnell on the win
Ralph Martino, Jr. also had a career-high 12 points and seven rebounds for SFU (2-7), while teammate Zion Russell also registered 12 points.
The turning point in the game was fueled by six points from Weiand and five points apiece by Victor Payne and Zion Russell. Because of that, the Red Flash scored the first 20 points of the game and never looked back.
Saint Francis closed the final 6:34 of the first half on a 16-6 run, thanks to seven points apiece by Weiand and Zion Russell.
In the second half, the Red Flash had a 27-12 run over nearly 10 minutes to increase its advantage to 73-30 with 8:52 on the clock. Papadotos and Brandon Russell led the charge with five points each against Shenango (0-4).
Saint Francis returns to action and starts a three-game road trip at Radford on Sunday. Game time is 2:30 p.m.

Sayles powers Lady Lions to win
The Penn State Altoona women’s basketball team is 5-2 after disposing of Pitt-Greensburg, 64-39, Wednesday night inside the Adler gymnasium.
The Lady Lions, up 26-18 at halftime, used a 17-8 showing in the third quarter to pull away for a victory. Avana Sayles led the way with 22 points and 14 rebounds to go with 16 points from Madison Rusnica and 10 points from Jaidyn McCracken.
Pitt-Greensburg (0-6) got 16 points from Kaylee Charles and 14 points from Autumn Matthews.
PSU Altoona hosts Penn State-Harrisburg next Monday.
PSU Altoona men roughed up
GREENSBURG — The Pitt-Greensburg men’s basketball team improved to 7-0, downing Penn State Altoona, 93-66.
The Nittany Lions (4-4) got 20 points from Kaden Claar and 11 points from Nehemiah Frye in a game it was outscored, 48-32, in the second half.
Trent Rozich led the Panthers with 22 points, followed by 15 points from Michael Bigley.
PSU Altoona hosts Wooster College Saturday.
Juniata men dealt fourth setback
HUNTINGDON — The Juniata College men’s basketball team dropped to 2-4, losing 86-71 to Catholic University.
Down 40-32 at halftime, the Eagles were led by Noah Bailey and Malcolm Griffith with 12 points each. Teammate Ty Kocak added 10 points.
Catholic (6-1) got 27 points from C.J. Ruoff to go with 20 points from Brian Herbert.
Juniata hosts Scranton Saturday.
JC women struggle in second half
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Juniata College women’s basketball team was outscored 43-10 in the second half in a 77-38 loss at Catholic University.
Juniata (0-6) got 10 points and seven rebounds from Bri Bodtorf. Anna Scoblick led the Lady Cardinals (4-2) with 13 points.
The Lady Eagles host Scranton Saturday.
Mount Aloysius duo too much for Carlow
PITTSBURGH — Molly Kosmack and Mackenzie Barr combined to lead the Mount Aloysius women’s basketball team past Carlow College, 98-54.
Kosmack finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds to go with 14 points and 11 points from Barr.
The Mount (2-4) led 49-26 at halftime.
The Lady Celtics got 11 points each from Lexi Ewig and Emara Stinnette.
The Lady Mounties host Hilberton Saturday.
Mounties men defeated at home
CRESSON — The Carlow College men’s basketball team got its first win of the season, beating Mount Aloysius, 88-76.
The Mount (1-6) got 17 points from Troy Tinch and 15 points each from Senique Jenkins and Donovan Bass-Briscoe.
The Celtics (1-8) were led by Jimmy Giannetta’s 24 points and 18 points from Aleel Batts in a game they led at the break, 41-34.
The Mount hosts Hilbert Saturday.

Arkansas downs No. 6 Louisville
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — John Calipari was in familiar territory Wednesday night. The only real change was the uniform.
Calipari’s No. 25 Arkansas team beat No. 6 Louisville 89-80, handling the Cardinals from the opening tip. Louisville didn’t lead once in the game. Calipari moved to 20-8 all-time against the Cards, with a majority of those wins coming when he coached Kentucky from 2009-2024.
Gophers upset No. 22 Indiana
MINNEAPOLIS — Cade Tyson had 17 points and eight rebounds to help Minnesota upset No. 22 Indiana 73-64 on Wednesday in the Big Ten debut for both head coaches, the Gophers’ Niko Medved and the Hoosiers’ Darian DeVries.
Langston Reynolds scored 17 points and Isaac Asuma added 15 for the Gophers (5-4, 1-0), who used a 40-25 rebounding advantage to hand the Hoosiers (7-1, 0-1) their first loss under DeVries and hold them to a season-low score after they were averaging nearly 90 points entering the game.
Tide get past Clemson
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Labaron Philon tied his career high with 29 points, Amari Allen added 20 points and 11 rebounds and No. 12 Alabama beat Clemson 90-84 on Wednesday night in the ACC/SEC Challenge.
The Crimson Tide (6-2) led by 19 and then had to rally down the stretch after Clemson (7-2) took a two-point lead with 2:41 to play.
RJ Godfrey led the Tigers with 19 points. Dillon Hunter chipped in 13 points, and Zac Foster added 12.
