Browns’ Garrett voted top edge rusher in NFL

Myles Garrett earned the No. 1 edge rusher spot in a preseason survey by The Associated Press.

A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at the position, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season.

First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2 and 1 points. Garrett received five first-place votes, two seconds and one third. Trey Hendrickson got two first-place votes and Micah Parsons received the other.

T.J. Watt finished second overall, one point ahead of Parsons. Hendrickson came in fourth and Nick Bosa finished fifth.

Williams retires

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams has retired from the NFL at age 30.

His agent informed the team Wednesday, just before training cam.

Williams signed a one-year deal in March but was placed on the physically unable to perform list Monday due to an undisclosed injury. Williams played eight NFL seasons, including stints with the Jets and Steelers, and had 330 career catches and 32 touchdowns.

DC bound

Von Miller is joining the Washington Commanders.

Miller is signing a one-year contract with Washington, a person familiar with the agreement tells The Associated Press.

The 36-year-old edge rusher’s deal comes a week before the start of training camp. Miller was cut by Buffalo in a salary cap-saving move in March after injuries derailed his time with the Bills.

Elsewhere:

– Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sentenced to 30 days in jail after authorities said he and another speeding driver caused a chain-reaction crash on a Dallas highway last year. Prosecutors say Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus SUV at 119 mph when he caused the March 2024 wreck. Multiple people were injured. On Thursday, Rice pleaded guilty to felony charges, including causing serious bodily injury. As part of a plea deal, he also received five years of deferred probation and must pay $115,000 for victims’ medical expenses.
